What if the angel announced Jesus’ birth too early? What if heaven’s messenger burst through the night sky wrapped in heaven’s glory-light and told the startled shepherds that the Savior would be born in about three months time?
I imagine those humbled herdsmen would have been happy. I mean, it’s still good news of great joy and all. But there would have been no need for action that night; they could have stayed with the sheep and let life continue on as before. Sure, they would look forward to the date specified by the angel, but in the busyness and hum-drum of routine, I wonder if they would have questioned the miraculous experience.
Timing is everything. When you launch a Christmas book in September, things get awkward quickly. Few people are shopping for their Advent read so early; they’re too busy looking forward to pumpkin spice everything and fall sweaters. Christmas is still in the distant future—or at least it seems that way.
Nevertheless, my new Christmas book is out and available. But goodness, it is lonely! So, I want to ask you a favor and offer you a gift.
First, the favor: If you’re the rare breed who starts listening to Christmas music early, who reaches for their favorite holiday mug for their morning coffee even when it’s still 80º outside, and who keeps their twinkle lights up all year long, then maybe you can help me. I’m looking for ten to fifteen people willing to dive in to Rediscovering Christmas in the next few weeks and then leave an honest (and hopefully positive) review on Amazon.com and Christianbook.com.
You can read more about the book at rediscoveringchristmasbook.com.
Here’s the gift: I’ll send you a copy of the book for free. I’ll even sign it if you like. Just send me a note with your mailing address using the contact form here, and I’ll send a copy your way in the next few days. Then, once you’ve had a chance to dive in to the biblical Christmas story a bit early, please leave your reviews. That will help more people find the book in time for the actual Christmas season.
Thanks—and Merry (Early) Christmas!
